Light It Up Blue The month of April is Autism Awareness month. We support Autism Speaks by “Lighting It Up Blue.” This campaign is designed to color the world blue in an effort to increase awareness of the challenges faced by people with autism. Awareness is the key to funding research for a cure and helping develop treatments that provide opportunities for people with autism to thrive in this world. Even more importantly, awareness leads to acceptance of people with autism, and their differences, by others. Given that one in 54 children are now being diagnosed with autism, just imagine how many community members have children, family members, or close friends that are affected! Our Delaware “Light It Up Blue” committee is successful in lighting up University of Delaware, Legislative Hall, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, City of Seaford, Seaford School District, Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance, Gallery 107, St. John’s United Methodist Church, Soroptimist’s Your Sisters’ Closet, Nanticoke Automotive, Penco’s Elegant Designs, Hertrich Family of Dealerships, Sweet Serenity, Western Sussex Chamber of Commerce, Act II Florist, and 35 other local businesses. April 2, 2020, the City of Seaford, along with businesses and partners will Light Up our City. You can help by shining blue lights, wearing blue, putting up signs and spreading the word of acceptance for children and families impacted by autism. Thanks for helping us shine a light on autism the month of April. Due to the COVID-19 closure of schools the Seaford Board of Education approved a revised calendar for the 2019-20 school year. There are two versions of the calendar. One calendar is if we return to school on May 18, 2020 and is titled May 18 FTF Learning. The second calendar is if students do not return to school this school year. This calendar is titled Remote Learning. These calendars are the final approved calendars from the Board of Education. Please note this is not the calendar that was displayed on the screen during the Board meeting.

Businesses and individuals from all over Delaware are helping our medical professionals. Through an organized effort, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and DonateDE.org are requesting donations of items from businesses or community members who have supplies that they do not currently need. Members of the community are not being asked to purchase new items for donation. The items being requested are on the attached press release.
